ChiroCongress Cares Announces Recipient of the Dr. Lou Sportelli, Legacy of Leadership Scholarship

Molalla, Oregon — December 12, 2024 — — ChiroCongress Cares, during the ChiroCongress Convention in Denver, Colorado, proudly unveiled the recipient of the prestigious Legacy of Leadership Scholarship. This esteemed scholarship has been awarded to Ms. Erin Solloway, a dedicated student pursuing her chiropractic education at Parker University. Ms. Solloway was honored with a $5,000 scholarship and received an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the 2024 ChiroCongress Convention. The generous funding for this year’s Legacy of Leadership Scholarship was graciously provided by ChiroHealth USA and NCMIC.

Ms. Solloway’s journey to higher education has been an inspiring one and Dr. Christopher Cantu, Association Professor at Parker University shared “Ms. Solloway has exemplified nothing but determination, ambition, and perseverance through her time at Parker. She is actively engaged in student organizations and serves as a representative to the Executive Student Council as well as the Motion Palpation Institute Student Organization. She supports her fellow students and helps them whenever possible and this award will benefit not only Ms. Solloway, but her future patients as well.”

In her own words, Solloway expressed her gratitude, saying, “Receiving this scholarship is an incredible honor and a pivotal moment as I enter my final year of chiropractic college. It goes beyond financial assistance; it is a validation of my efforts and a reminder that hard work truly pays off. This scholarship also reflects the influence of the great leaders who have shaped me into the person I am today, encouraging me to pursue anything I believe is achievable… With this support, I am more motivated than ever to achieve my goals and make a meaningful impact in my field.”

In 2022, ChiroCongress Cares took a significant step by establishing the Legacy of Leadership fund, dedicated to raising and disbursing resources to support chiropractic students through scholarships. Each year, this scholarship will be named in honor of a prominent figure in the chiropractic profession, past or present. The 2024 scholarship has been named in honor of Dr. Lou Sportelli, a dedicated servant of the chiropractic profession

Dr. Sportelli is one of the early visionaries who believed that the profession needed a unifying organization that brought the state associations together under one umbrella and helped organize a gathering of leaders in 1969 that formed the Congress of Chiropractic State associations (a.k.a., ChiroCongress). Through a video presentation, Dr. Sportelli congratulated Ms. Solloway for achieving this recognition and praised her for her demonstrated dedication and leadership.

Dr. Don Cross, President of the ChiroCongress Cares Board, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm, stating, “Our Board of Directors is so excited to be awarding our second annual scholarship to Ms. Solloway. When ChiroCongress Cares was first chartered, one of our primary

areas of focus was to support our chiropractic students. This is just the beginning; we are working towards providing more scholarships each year.”

Aspiring chiropractic students are encouraged to submit their applications for the 2025 scholarship named in memory of Dr. Chris Anderson in April 2025, with a submission deadline of June 30, 2025. Notifications of the recipient will be sent out on or before September 15, 2025, and the award will be publicly announced during the ChiroCongress Convention in Boston, MA, November 2025.
